About

Arev

Grew up in the small post-soviet Republic of Armenia, crossed the borders into the bigger world for a voluntary year in Hungary after University, currently living and teaching German in Berlin. Passionate about arts and tasty food, appreciative of multiculturality, diversity and universal human understanding.

To understand the world has always been something that was driving me through all my life. Reading books or articles, watching movies or seeing theatre performances, listening to a piece of good music – have been great ways for me to explore life. But what can be better, than getting on the road, experiencing the world with my own eyes, in an authentic way and telling stories from a personal point of view? So here we go…

Mathias

Half Korean (mother’s side) born in a little village on the foot of the Black Forest in Germany, just next to France and Switzerland.
I have always been very interested in other countries, cultures, people and politics. Eventually, I trained as a chef in a two Michelin star kitchen and am about to earn a degree in economics while working in fundraising for the green party. As I desperately would like to change the world for the better, I am eager to really get to know it first. Curious how leaving my ultra-progressive bubble Berlin will influence my perception of different lifestyles, that challenge my personal convictions and life in general.

Probably. But we believe that we have a chance to make this project work and if we don’t try, we won’t ever know. There is a decent chance that we will regret giving up our comfortable lives, but, at the same time, there is a certainty that we will miss out on countless invaluable experiences if we don’t.

Yes, of course. Climate change, socio-economic disparities and disintegration of our democracies are among our biggest concerns. Well, and, obviously, our future. 2020 showed us all that there is no such thing as absolute security and that things always can go wrong big time. We want to learn to embrace this state of uncertainty that without doubt will be a regular companion of our time on the road.

We take the pandemic very seriously, minimized our social contacts to almost zero since march 2020 and always follow the guidelines, that are provided by the authorities. Travelling by bicycle and camping in our tent however should be as save as staying at home, beeing at the fresh air all the time. We are optimistic that by the time we start our tour, the infection rates would be decreased significantly. We both are fully vaccinated.
